Human Geography Class            Today in human geography class we took notes the whole time. Last week we talked about region and place, and today we talked about site and situation, although we did not get to situation. Climate determines what kinds of animals or vegetation can grow in a certain area. Water sources such as the Chesapeake Bay and the Nile River can provide transportation, a source of water, and water for crops. Topography tells people whether a certain site is above or near sea level, flat, or mountainous, etc. the soil of a place can determine what kinds of crops will be able to grow there. Vegetation tells people what kinds of trees, grass, and plants can grow in a certain area. Latitude determines if a place is hot or cold (near the equator or not). Elevation determines if a certain area is close to sea level or not.
Human Geography Class              Today in human geography class we had a long discussion on the recent protests in the NFL. The recent protests are kneeling during the National Anthem in an effort to show resistance towards the president of the United States, Donald Trump. My family and I have decided to boycott the NFL because they let these protests happen in the first place. These football players do not know how many lives have been lost in an effort to maintain our freedom and the protection of our rights. If people do not support the president, they have two choices which are 1. move out of the country if they dislike him so much, or 2. suck it up and deal with it. My parents did not like Obama, but did they go out and protest during the National Anthem or start riots and get in fights with people. No. Why? Because they are respectful and learned to deal with him even though he was not a good president. Todays s
Human Geography Class             Today in human geography class Mr. Schick let us have a free period. He wanted to finish grading our tests, so he let us finish homework. I was able to finish my Spanish homework and my blog. I really appreciated this free time because I have soccer practice tonight.
Human Geography Class           Today in human geography class we talked about maps. The main map almost every school uses is a Mercator map. Mr. Schick showed us a video from a tv show that used to air a couple years ago. The clip we watched was about a group of people that were having a discussion with the president on changing the maps that almost every school uses. They showed the president how inaccurate the Mercator map was. It showed Africa as a small continent, when really it is much larger, and it makes the United States much larger looking than it really is. The group proposed the idea and came up with a solution to the problem. They wanted to replace the maps with a new, more accurate map called the gall-peters map. After the video, Mr. Schick continued to lecture about the differences between the two maps, and how accurate the gall-peters map is.
Human Geography Class        Today in Human Geography class we took notes. Mr. Schick told us that we were actually going to start learning about geography. The notes we took in class today were about regions of the world.  We learned a new term called formal region which is an area with a high level of consistency on a certain cultural or physical attribute. Formal regions are uniform or homogeneous areas where everyone in that region shares common attributes like language, climate, or political system.  We also learned that regions are a highly contested yet important concept in the study of human geography and can be studied as they relate to space, place, and location. Regions allow us to generalize about a common characteristic so we can better group them. Today in human geography class I learned many new things that I didn’t know before. I am excited for this year, and what we will get to cover in class.
Human Geography Class                Today in Human Geography class we had a test. It was my first test of the year, and I wasn't that nervous for it. I studied for it for a while last night, although I felt confident because I remembered everything we learned about. The test itself was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. Ii was very easy compared to the tests i took last year at my old school. At most there was one or two questions I was not sure about, but overall I feel like I did quite well on the test.
Human Geography Class      Today in Human Geography class we reviewed for the test. We also discussed possible questions for the test tomorrow.
Human Geography Class Today in Human Geography class we discussed the ancient Greeks meaning of the word "idiot". The word meant someone who was considered self centered. They believed that idiots were born and citizens were made through school. If someone did not participate in voting, they would also be called idiots. Idiots were mainly focused on themselves and did not care about what was happening around them.  We also talked more about Socrates and his most famous quote. “The unexamined life is not worth living.” I agree with Socrates because not questioning anything and always following other people is boring. It’s fun to be able to question people you believe are wrong and thinking outside of the box. It’s almost like freedom. We are able to put our opinions out there and not everyone has to agree with them. It is nice to not be a follower.
