A Letter to Garcia

In A Letter to Garcia it talks about the importance of doing your best and not being lazy with everything you do. The protagonist is a youthful lieutenant named Rowan, who did as he was asked and delivered a letter to Garcia, who was in the mountainside of Cuba. Rowan took the letter to Garcia and did not ask any questions, he just did what he was told. Elbert Hubbard, the author of this letter, praised Rowan for doing what he was told without asking anything, and said there should be statues of Rowan on every college campus.
Hubbard’s overall message in A Letter to Garcia is that people now-a-days always ask questions before they do something. Rowan did as he was asked, because there wasn’t much information as to where Garcia was located. In modern society now people will most likely ask questions instead of doing what they’re told. I know that I am also someone who does this and I don’t think it’s a good habit. It is good to just do as you’re told because it shows good leadership and courage. Not only does it show good leadership and courage it also shows one’s value of hard work and effort.

Hubbard’s message can even go for schoolwork. If someone doesn’t do their best, they get a bad grade. If you put the effort and time into your work then you will most likely get a good grade as reward. While social media and technology is good for meeting new people or reconnecting with others you haven’t seen in a while, it’s better to meet people in person because you can connect with them better. A Letter to Garcia has a great message about hard work, and we should all aspire to be like Rowan.
